FOUNTAIN OF LOVE, ABERDEEN
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) started in the UK in 1988, first as a
House fellowship and then as a church in Angel area of London. It has now grown to over 375 parishes (branches) in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
It took another 10 years for the church to have any tangible presence north of the border. It was in 1998 that renewed efforts were made to take forward a previous initiative by Sam Ileoma who in 1996 started off a branch of the RCCG in Aberdeen.
Under the guidance of Kola Bamigbade as the Senior Pastor, Chris Gbenle was asked to take over the leadership of the Aberdeen church. The church was meeting at Lauries Motel for a short period of time and it was thought more convenient to move to the city centre. For the next seven years and eight months, the church was meet ing regularly at the McClymont Hall, Holborn Street.
It was not all smooth sailing, but the Lord was gracious to us and He deserves all our praise.
The church had many visions and dreams that we believed could only be fulfilled if we had a building of our own.
Around 2002 we started thinking seriously about having a ‘home’, since we have had our fair share of a nomadic life. The financial contributions towards acquiring a church building did not amount to much despite our best efforts. It was in October 2004 that we prayerfully took the bold step, and to the glory of God we concluded the purchase of 31 Palmerston Road in the first week of May 2005. The conversion and refurbishment work started in the last week of October 2005, and here we are today wondering how far The Lord has taken us.
The desire to see people free from all oppressions of the devil is a passion God placed on our hearts. Daily meals (lunch) for the homeless and those with alcohol and drug problems is being actualised already since we moved to the office section of this building in September 2005. We serve about 120 people rations of meal per week which covers lunch and prayers Monday to Friday, dinner on Tuesday evening in the Church hall, and distribution of food on the Street every Sunday evening. A small part of our dream is being fulfilled!
There are other thriving parishes of the RCCG in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Fraserburgh, Inverness, Inverurie and a second parish in Aberdeen.
A voice to speak the love of God and hands to demonstrate it is what we desire to be to our generation. We need all the help we can get, and in God and the people around us, we are finding this help.
GOD BLESS YOU.
